Proposal Submission
Submission Deadline: June 30th
Response By: July 14th
Event Date: August 14th
Raw Yolk is hosting a day long conference of panels, lectures, and workshops focused on promoting the work of minorities in the food industry. We are seeking proposals for panel topics, lectures, and workshops for the event.
What is the structure of the event?
The event will take place on August 14th, from 11-5pm.
The schedule consists of three 45 minute workshops, followed by workshops or lectures either 30min or 1 hour long.
The event will be followed by a dinner where you will be able to spend more time meeting other attendees over food and drink.
But August 14th is a Tuesday!
We wanted to have the event on industry schedule. Since the weekend is always busiest, having it on a Tuesday will allow for more industry minorities to attend without having to lose an important day of work.
What type of proposals interested in?
Topics we are interested in exploring include: what happens after #metoo, queer and marginalized communities in the kitchen, food waste and sustainability, immigration law, food worker justice, food waste, cultural appropriation, authenticity, and appreciation, food justice, work life balance, self-care, addiction and eating disorders, food photography, wine making, history of food, entrepreneurship, business planning and financial literacy, starting your own home food business, transitioning into the food world, the future of food, gender and the kitchen, parenthood, food trends, just to name a few.
What is the difference between a workshop and a lecture?
Workshops will be more interactive (like how to grow mushrooms at home) and typically involve letting the attendee take something home. Lectures are more of a crash course (like history of apple pie), and involve less hands-on learning.
I don’t have a workshop or lecture idea, but I have expertise I want to share. How can I contribute?
As we narrow down what topics are of most interest for the panel discussions, we will be looking for speakers for our panel. If you have expertise in a field and wish to contribute, please apply!
Can I nominate someone to be on a panel?
Yes! Just fill out the application and share their contact information. We will reach out to them.
What tech will be provided?
We ask that you keep the need for tech to a minimum. We will provide microphones for the lectures, but can’t guarantee additional tech for the lectures/workshops.
How many people will attend?
While the panels will be open to everyone attending the event, the workshop and lectures will require signing up beforehand. You are welcome to set the limit on the number of attendees.
Can I co-teach with someone?
Yes! Just submit a proposal, and include both of your contact information at the end.
